Do I look like I want to talk about Team USA's goaltenders?

Ever since USA Hockey announced its 2010 Olympic roster on January 1st, there has been a great debate within the hockey community on whether Team USA’s GM Brian Burke made the right decision by taking Los Angeles Kings netminder Jon Quick over Colorado Avalanche backstopper Craig Anderson for the 3rd goaltender spot on the team. Even former NHL wallflower Jeremy Roenick chimed in with his thoughts on Team USA... so you know if Roenick is talking about it... it must be a big deal.

To attempt to get the definitive word on this pressing issue, we combined forces (“we” as in Avalanche blogger Sean Payton from Anyone But Detroit and Kings blogger ChrisKontos from The Royal Half) and used our vast network of insider connections to contact Burke. The goal was simple: figure out Brian’s reasons for taking “Quick” over “Andy”.
After having to sit through Burke going on a 20 minute rant about how worthless hockey bloggers are, (let’s just say the phrases “know-it-all idiots” and “you need to get a life” were tossed around more than once... and that's just when he was talking about Colin Campbell!) Brian finally started to talk about his decision. Like most Brian Burke press conferences, there were a lot of great one-liners...so we picked out the best quotes and present to you, the Olympic Hockey Blog reader... the Top 5 reasons Jonathan Quick made the USA Olympic team and the Top 5 reasons Craig Anderson didn't. Enjoy!

Brian Burke's Top 5 Reasons Jon Quick made Team USA
  1. "He's quick. That's why the boys nicknamed him "Quick."
  2. "Have you seen his mask?! It's super cool."
  3. "Well, Quick has a better last name for NHL.com headline puns than Anderson. Quick thinking, huh? Hey! That's a great potential headline... let me write that one down!"
  4. "I mean, Jon Quick just looks so intimidating in the stars and stripes."
  5. “I still hate the Kings. So I’m taking them down from the inside.”
Brian Burke’s top 5 Reasons Craig Anderson did not make Team USA
  1. "I had confused him with P.T. Anderson
  2. "I mean the dude was the back-up goalie for the Panthers... you tell me how good he really can be!"
  3. "Didn't you read the season previews in September? The Avs are going to be god-awful this season."
  4. "I don't trust bald goaltenders."
  5. "Who freaking cares? Its not like he would have gotten any ice time anyway."
